My Contribution to a Publication Created by Participants in a Netherlands-based Summer Studio size: 8.2677” × 11.6929” {A4} After we returned from our summer trip to the Netherlands, we created a publication that captured our experiences. Every participant was responsible for creating a segment of the publication based on self-initiated projects that we had been working on during the trip. I have long been fascinated by the concept of ephemera and how it can reflect the culture and design trends of a place and period in time. So I made it my business to collect as much of it during the trip and ended up with an amazing collection and many stories to tell about the circumstances under which I found the different pieces. In designing my segment for the publication, I tried to organize this collection in several ways, ranging from style of typography to format to how much I liked it. In the end, I decided to classify the ephemera in a chronological fashion, starting from what I collected on day one of the trip and ending on the last. In the display, pieces that I found at one location are grouped closer to each-other. The pieces, as well as their description frequently overlap each-other or appear to not be perfectly gridded, reflecting the random manner in which I found these pieces as we went about from place to place.
