Book showcasing the thesis projects of graduate students in CCA's Architecture program. Size: 9"x6.25" As an intern at Sputnik, my primary project was to single-handedly design this book for the Architecture program, over a period of 6 months. This was a prestigious project for the Architecture Department as well since it would be used to attract new students into the program and represent the program to the world of architecture outside of CCA. The main objective was to communicate the innovative nature of thesis projects at CCA and only the best graduate thesis projects were selected to be a part of the book. To begin with, I chose a horizontal format, uncommon where Architecture books are concerned. However, this was necessary as a lot of Architectural drawings were vast landscape designs. This became a point of differentiation and I exploited it to our advantage to showcase beautiful images that crossed over the spreads. Secondly, since paper is one of the most architectural instruments in the hands of a graphic designer, I ended up creating mini paper sculptures that were sympathetic to each project in the book. The photographs of these sculptural paper objects became the abstract backdrops for the introductory pages of the projects, the cover design and vibrant end papers. It was a great learning experience to create a look that allowed enough flexibility to showcase the widely different projects and yet create cues that brought them together as a whole.
